“Matt is a proven leader amongst his teammates,” says Eskimos Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager Ed Hervey in a statement. “Matt has developed into one of the most dominate offensive linemen in the CFL. His physical toughness and competitiveness is exactly what we want on our football team, particularly on the offensive line.”
O’Donnell was orginally drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 2011 CFL draft, he was traded to the Eskimos in the 2012 season.
O’Donnell has played 67 career games for the Eskimos starting in 56 games at left and right guard, and at right tackle.
The 27 year-old was named the Eskimos nominee for Most Outstanding Lineman in 2013. O’Donnell helped the Eskimos to a Grey Cup win in 2015.
