While Donald Trump’s protectionist promises loomed large over the APEC meeting in Peru, the Provincial Minister of Agriculture & Forestry Oneil Carlier is back in Alberta, and buoyed by what he says was a successful a trade mission to Asia.
It was his first time in China and South Korea, and Carlier told the Alberta Morning News he saw great contacts being made by Alberta businesses.
“One of the highlights for me personally, was to attend the Food and Hospitality in Shanghai, and this is one of the world’s largest trade shows.” said Carlier “At the Canadian Pavilion, there was about sixty or so businesses from around Canada, and around eight or ten from Alberta themselves.”
Carlier says those booths were so packed with customers, he couldn’t get a word in edgewise. “It was a great opportunity to showcase their products.” he said.
Carlier says the Chinese contacts he spoke with were keen to buy Alberta products, the only stumbling block being trade barriers that Ottawa is currently working to iron out. (ms, Alberta Morning News)
