If you are a believer in momentum then the Eskimos should be the favorites on Sunday in the East Semi Final in Hamilton. The Green and Gold head to the CFL playoffs as the cross over team, but they also head to Hamilton with five wins in their last six games and playing their best football of the season. The Ti-Cats, just the opposite – five losses in the last six, including one to Edmonton at Tim Hortons Field in week 19. All that doesn’t mean much to head coach Jason Maas “We finished very strong, there will be no let down whatsoever.” says the first year head coach “We don’t look at them losing five of six as meaning anything to us. We have a big task ahead of us to beat them on Sunday.”
With several key players back at practice this week, the Eskimos are as healthy as they have been all season, and Maas says that has generated a good week of practice through the first two days “Good prep. Guys are locked in, physical today at practice they are ready to play.”
As all clubs do it at playoff time, and Thursday was the day for the Eskimos. Practice was closed to fans and media and the coach made no apologies for that “No one needs to know what we are doing right now. If you want to try different things you try them, if your’e staying status quo you stay status quo.”
The Ti-cats closed their practice Wednesday.
Running back John White missed the fun last year. He got a ring, but didnt get to play. White missed all of the Eskimos Grey Cup season with a ruptured achillies suffered in training camp. He is healthy now and ready to go for his first playoff game since 2014. “I’m excited. I definitely missed out on it last year. I’m not going to change anything though, just relax and play my game.”
White’s game has been great. In the last four he has played, 457 yards rushing and five TDs. In Hamilton two weeks ago he ran for 132 yards in the Eskimos 29-26 win. When asked what he remembers about that game his answer was simple.
