The Eskimos still don’t know who or where they will play in the CFL playoffs, but they do know they will be going into the playoffs strong. A 29-26 win in Hamilton over the Tiger Cats gives the Eskimos 4 wins in their last five games and keeps them alive for everything from a 2nd place finish in the west and hosting a playoff game to finishing fourth and crossing over to the East for the playoffs and that would mean another game at Tim Horton’s Field in two or three weeks in the eastern playoffs.
After a slow start, the Eskimos took a 12-11 lead to the dressing room at half time and increased that to 29-11 in the fourth quarter before they held off a late surge by the Ticats.
Mike Reilly threw two TD passes to Derel Walker and ran one in himself while Sean Whyte kicked for the other 11 points – going 3 for 3 on field goals. Reilly completed 18 of 31 pass attempts for 239 yards.
After a 42 day break, the Eskimos will now go back to the Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium to play the Toronto Argos on Saturday. It will be the Eskimos first home game since September 23rd. They ended a four game road trip with a 3 and 1 record – improving to 9 and 8 on the season.
Losses on Saturday by Bombers at home to Ottawa and the Lions in Regina will keep the Eskimos alive for 2nd place in the west. If the Bombers win, the Eskimos will then be assured of the crossover spot and a game in Hamilton or Ottawa to start the playoffs.
