The province is happy to see the number of vehicle registrations increased between April and August of this year, over the same period last year.
Service Alberta minister Stephanie McLean said renewals went up 62 percent. “The numbers of registrations overall have actually increased in the province. You know, it’s hard to know what to attribute that to, in particular.”
Another stat that has not impressed many people was hearing that the number of fines for people who failed to renew registrations also went up. McLean said she asked Alberta Justice about that. “They told us that there is nothing that is compelling to correlate our renewal reminders to the minor increase in fines. But very comfortably, even where we saw an increase in one month, it dropped off the next month.”
In April, the province stopped sending out vehicle registration renewal notices, other than for those over 70 years of age. (eb)
