The jobless rate in the Edmonton region started to stabilize after five months of losses.
The latest numbers show Edmonton’s unemployment rate dropped from 8% in August to 7.7% in September.
The construction, energy and manufacturing sectors saw gains, which helped offset losses in the information, finance and professional servies sectors. Modest growth was also seen in part-time employment numbers.
The Edmonton region saw average weekly wages continue to move up, resulting in an annual growth rate of 4.1 per cent.
Calgary’s September unemployment rate was 9.5 per cent. (bw)
