Flu shots will be available in Alberta again, starting Monday, October 24.
Senior medical officer of health, Dr. Gerry Preddy told a news conference Wednesday that getting protection from influenza is important. “Influenza sends more Albertans to emergency departments than strokes and heart attacks. Influenza puts more Alberta kids in hospital than poisonings. And influenza is responsible for more than half of Alberta deaths from infectious disease.”
The province surveyed people this summer to see what would give them the encouragement they need to get their flu shots. Dr. Preddy said they learned people wants the facts, not sugar-coated. “Influenza is serious, and immunization works. And immunization will be available to all Albertans six months of age and older. And as with last season, we’ve insured the influenza vaccine will be easily accessible through hundreds of AHS clinics. many pharmacists, and physicians as well.”
