On the eve of becoming a father of twins, Cam Talbot delivered a win for the Edmonton Oilers.
The goalie made 31 saves, including a spectacular glove stop on Jeff Skinner with 2.3 seconds left, as the Oilers knocked off the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 Tuesday night at Rogers Place.
The Oilers took a lead just 1:51 in on Anton Slepyshev’s first goal of his career. Jordan Eberle made it 2-0 at 9:22 when Ron Hainsey accidentally shot Eberle’s centring pass into his own net.
Tyler Pitlick extended the lead to 3-0 early in the second. The Hurricanes rallied in the third with two goals from Lee Stempniak 56 seconds apart. In the final four minutes, the Oilers had to kill off a penalty to Adam Larsson and two minutes off pressure from Carolina with goalie Cam Ward pulled for an extra attacker.
The Oilers improve to 3-1 on the season. They played most of the game with five defenceman as Mark Fayne suffered an injury in the first period.
The Oilers will host St. Louis on Thursday. (jrw)
