It’s the end of an era. Jim Taylor, president of the Downtown Business Association, is stepping down.
Taylor has been the president of the DBA for 21 years. Before that, he was a downtown city councillor and member of the board for the association. Speaking to Global News, he explained why this was the perfect time for the DBA to get a new start, and new direction.
“Downtown has arrived at the place we all wanted it to get to 21 years ago,” said Taylor. “So it’s a perfect time for me to be stepping aside.”
The plan for revitalization began over two decades ago, and as Taylor puts it, started at rock bottom. It focused on creating residential spaces in the downtown area. As people moved in, businesses and growth followed.
“We’re at a historical high point in our downtown,” said Taylor. “It’s been unbelievable, and I’m overwhelmed at where we’ve ended up.”
Taylor will be taking some time off before deciding what to do in this next chapter of his life. A replacement president will be appointed in early November, which Taylor says will lead to not just a transformation of the downtown area, but a transformation of the organization dedicated to its revitalization.
