It’s been quite a week for Eric Gryba.
The defenceman completed a try out with the Edmonton Oilers, signed a contract with the team, was placed on waivers, and now has been recalled from the minors. Plus, he could play Friday night when the Oilers visit the Calgary Flames.
Despite being assigned to the Bakersfield Condors in the AHL, Gryba never left Edmonton. “I’ve been here waiting on a work visa,” Gryba says. “I was planning on going to Winnipeg for Sunday because Bakersfield plays Winnipeg. Now I don’t know what’s happening.”
There’s a spot open on the blue line with Brandon Davidson suffering an upper body injury Wednesday against the Flames. Head coach Todd McLellan says Davidson will be out “a while.” The injury is not a concussion. Davidson has been place on injured reserve. Mark Fayne and Matthew Benning are also candidates to replace Davidson.
Up front, Matt Kassian took Anton Slepyshev’s spot on right wing with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Benoit Pouliot. Slepyshev skated with Mark Letestu and Tyler Pitlick. (jrw)
