Some experts are warning Alberta is in the midst of a crisis because of fentanyl deaths. But now something 100 times more toxic is popping up. It’s called carfentanil.
It doesn’t take much to kill you — even a dose the size of a grain of sand could be lethal. Alberta’s chief medical examiner confirms carfentanil was recently found in the bodies of two Alberta men in their 30s: one from the Edmonton area, the other from Calgary.
“Albertans need to know that the drug carfentanil has made its way into our province and that it is an extremely dangerous and deadly opioid,” Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Karen Grimsrud said.
It’s so potent that until recently, they couldn’t even detect it in your blood because it took so little to kill you.
Carfentinil is an opioid licensed to use with large animals, but not for humans. (bd)
