Leon Draisaitl will play his first game of the pre-season Tuesday night when the Edmonton Oilers host the Anaheim Ducks.
He’ll centre Patrick Maroon and Nail Yakupov, even though at the morning skate he ran through some drills on the right wing with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Benoit Pouliot.
“We certainly have options with the way Drake Caggiula has played to this point. He’s allowed us to think about some other things, one being Leon on the wing. But it’s not written in stone. We have a lot of decisions to make,” says Oilers head coach Todd McLellan.
The Oilers expected lineup is:
Maroon – Draisaitl – Yakupov
Pouliot – RNH – Puljujarvi
Hendricks – Letestu – Kassian
Slepyshev – Lander – Pitlick
Klefbom – Larsson
Simpson – Fayne
Reinhart – Gryba
Cam Talbot is expected to go the distance in net.
– McLellan says they will name a captain “well before opening day. We’re well into the process. Everybody is back now from the World Cup. We weren’t going to do anything until our group was together.”
– Kris Versteeg missed practice. He’s day-to-day with a lower body injury. Brandon Davidson remains day-to-day after taking a check to the head on Sunday against the Kings.
– The Oilers and Ducks are on 630 CHED with the Face-off Show at 5:30pm and the game starting at 7pm. (jrw)
