An Edmonton man previously charged with several counts of sexual assault, is now facing an additional 18 charges.
Police charged Matthew McKnight, 29, in August after a complaint was made April 1, 2016. At the time investigators said there could be more alleged victims and asked them to come forward. Since then 14 complainants have done so, all reporting incidents were between December 2013 and July 2016.
The new charges against McKnight are: sexual assault (x12), assault (x2) and unlawful confinement (x4).
The 29-year-old used to do marketing for Urban Sparq Hospitality, which owns The Pint, Knoxville’s Tavern, The Rack, Denizen Hall, Canada Crawls, Arena Liquor and Argyle Grill and Bar. Brendan Crooks, a senior manager with Urban Sparq Hospitality, told Global News in August that McKnight worked as an independent consultant.
“We take this matter extremely seriously and will fully cooperate with Edmonton police in any manner they ask us to,” Crooks said in a statement to Global News on August 10.
The EPS Sexual Assault Section is continuing their investigation and asking anyone with information to call them at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
McKnight is scheduled to be in court November 7, 2016. (kb)
