Thirty new jobs are being created as an Edmonton company expands to a new facility, funded by the Alberta Innovates program.
Ceapro received $2.4 million from the province to help build the plant. It produces oat-oil extracts that can be used in health and personal-care products, selling the ingredients to brands like Aveeno. The new facility will double its workforce.
Premier Rachel Notley says it uses Alberta oats, which is what the province, and farmers, want to see happen.
“The more that you can find local processing and upgrading opportunities for your natural resource, the better. You start small, and hope that you establish a good international reputation and grow the call for your product.”
Notley is touting it as an example of the economic diversification they’ve been encouraging. (kdr)
