Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins skated with the Oilers for the first time at training camp on Tuesday.
McDavid was on a line with Milan Lucic and Jordan Eberle at practice. McDavid says he’s excited to play with the Oilers newest power forward.
“I was at the game last night and I was so happy to watch Lucic play,” says McDavid. “The way he plays, it’s going to work well I think. He opens up so much room, he wins battles, he keeps pucks alive, he’s almost a perfect winger for myself.”
Lucic says it’s a big compliment to get the opportunity to play with McDavid.
“Hopefully the chemistry will be there right from the start,” says Lucic. “Just one practice with him, he seems like a real easy player to play with. You just get him the puck and he does his thing.”
The Oilers skated in two groups on Tuesday. Here are the lines the Oilers rolled with in the NHL group.
The Oilers also trimmed their training camp roster to 51. The team sent Ethan Bear, Caleb Jones, and Markus Niemelainen back to their junior teams. The Oilers also assigned Scott Allen, Joey Benik, Frankie Simonelli, and Jaedon Descheneau to the Bakersfield Condors. (bu)
