It’s not the start to the game the Oil Kings were looking for in front of their first sold-out crowd, but it all worked out in the end.

Their home opener at Rogers Place against the Red Deer Rebels began 90 minutes late due to technical difficulties. Fans at the game say a boom lift appeared to be stuck on the ice, prior to the start of the game, with what appeared to be a problem with one of its wheels.
While waiting out the delay, the fans got to to watch Canada defeating Russia 5-3 in semifinal action at the World Cup of Hockey on the arena’s massive high-definition screens.
They then got to cheer on the ceremonial puck drop.
