The Eskimos don’t find themselves in a favourable position with six games remaining in their regular season. The team has lost three straight games and sit with the 5-7 record. The team is falling back in the Western Division sitting six points back of third place. The best chance for the Eskimos is likely the crossover position in the Eastern Division as the team is currently tied for third place with the Toronto Argonauts.
The Eskimos held their one and only practice Wednesday as the B.C. Lions come to The Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium on Friday. Quarterback Mike Reilly says the team’s margin for error is getting razor thin.
The message from head coach Jason Maas to his team this week is to put behind them the first two-thirds of the season and to focus on the final six games. Receiver Adarius Bowman says that should be an easy task.
The Eskimos are going into Friday’s game with just four days rest. The Lions on the other hand are coming off a bye week with 13 days rest. The Eskimos will have to make some lineup changes due to injuries. Head coach Jason Maas hopes a few fresh bodies will make a difference.
“We have a talented group around our 46 (man roster) with the practice roster’s combined with guys coming off six-game (injured),” Maas said. “We have some talent here but some people you haven’t seen or heard of yet. This time of year when you need a guy to step up, we believe those guys are going to able to do that. When your talking about fresh legs on a four-day work week it’s probably pretty good to have some of those guys in.”
Receiver Cory Watson didn’t practice today after suffering a leg injury in Regina on Sunday. It looks like Brandon Zylstra will play his first CFL game on Friday and start in the receiving corps. Defensive lineman Don Oramasionwu has been practicing the team for the last two and is set to return on Friday. Oramasionwu suffered a torn left triceps injury in the pre-season which required surgery.
Kick-off Friday on The Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium is at 8pm, 630 CHED has the pre-game show starting at 6pm.
