Drake Caggiula scored twice and Jesse Puljujarvi added two assists as the Edmonton Oilers rookies topped the University of Alberta Golden Bears 6-3 Wednesday night at Clare Drake Arena.
Despite falling behind 30 seconds in on a goal by Tanner Clarkson, the Oilers dominated the game, outshooting the Bears 50-26.
Collin Shirley, Braden Christoffer, and Tomas Soustal had first period goals for the Oilers with Jamie Crooks getting one back for Alberta. The Oilers outshot the Bears 25-6 in the first period.
Patrick Russell and Caggiula extended the lead to 5-2 with second period markers. Lucas Nickles gave the Bears some life with a goal early in the third, but Caggiula iced it with an empty-netter in the final minute.
Nick Ellis earned the win in net. The all-time series between the two clubs is now tied 13-13 with the Oilers having won the last three.
