Mother Teresa Elementary School has officially changed its name to “St. Teresa of Calcutta,” in honour of Mother Teresa being canonized.
Principal Kyle Porter says the Catholic school has embraced the decision of Pope Francis.
“We’ll always remember her as Mother Teresa,” remarked Porter. “But I think it’s an honour to be, obviously, canonized and become a saint. So I think the name change reflects that honour, and, again, we are happy to embrace it.”
Porter says their superintendent also delivered a package of all the books that are available on Mother Teresa as a gift.
“These will be put in the library, so it’s something that can be embraced and we can all continue to learn about her. And the words and deeds — we can try to emulate that in our own actions and words.”
Porter says the kids have been researching Mother Teresa and creating posters in order to get to know her better. (kb/td)
