A theatre to watch video. A players lounge. A running track. A workout room with natural light coming in from 104 Avenue. A large, illuminated Oilers logo in the ceiling.
And, oh yeah, a place to change into your uniform.
Those are all parts of the Edmonton Oilers dressing room at Rogers Place. It was unveiled to the players Wednesday afternoon.
“It’s what everybody said it would be,” says centre Mark Letestu. “It’s not only the class of Alberta or Canada, but on par with any sports entertainment building globally.”
“The Oilers gave us as many resources as they could to be a successful team,” says winger Jordan Eberle.
“The players have to step up,” says Bob Nicholson, vice-chairman of the Oilers Entertainment Group. “Now it’s time for us to make this next step. We built this building for the fans and for the players, and we built it to win.”
The Oilers will play their first pre-season game in Rogers Place on September 26 against the Calgary Flames. (jrw)
