Bad injury news for Eskimos running back/full back Calvin McCarty. On Tuesday the team moved the 10 year vet to the 6 game injured list with a broken fibula suffered in Saturday’s loss to the Stampeders. That is an injury that will likely keep him out for the rest of the season. No word yet on RB John White who left the game with a shoulder injury on Saturday forcing McCarty into the game as his replacement. Mike Miller finished the game at running back and should move to the full back spot in McCarty’s absence. Aaron Milton, who recently rejoined the team from the suspended list is the only other Canadian full back on the roster.
Another new face for the Eskimos. The club has signed kick returner and receiver Troy Stoudermire to the practice roster.
The 26 year old Texan out of the University of Minnesota played in 2014 and 15 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and had an 11 yard punt return average along with a 22 yard kick off return average. Stoudermire also ran back two kicks for TDs.
The Eskimos punt return game has been near the bottom of the league in average for most of the season. As a team they are last at 7.9 yards per punt and Kenzel Doe is 10th in the league with an 8.1 average. Doe has been consistant at catching the ball and getting positive yards, but has yet to break any big runs on punts, with his longest being 32 yards.
After a loss to the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday, the Eskimos have been off the field recooperating from two days in six games, both losses to the Stampeders. The Eskimos travel to Regina this weekend to play their final game on Taylor Field at Mosiac Stadium, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 (pregame show on 630 CHED at 1)
