For the 7th time in the last 10 years, the Calgary Stampeders have swept the Labour Day Series from the Edmonton Eskimos. Calgary, now 9 -1-1 followed up Mondays win in Calgary with a 34-28 OT win in Edmonton on Saturday.
A great start for the 5 and 6 Eskimos, on the first offensive play from scrimmage Mike Reilly and Derel Walker combined for a 104 yard catch and run play for a TD. Reilly then threw a TD pass to Adarius Bowman and the Eskimos led 17-3 at the half but could not finish. Calgary outscored the Eskimos 17-3 in the 2nd half and 14-8 in overtime to win.
Sean Whyte had a chance win the game, but was short on a 52 yard field goal attempt on the final play of regulation.
Davarus Daniels had 2 TDs and 113 yards in receiving to lead the Calgary offence, Bo Levi Mitchell threw for 338 yards and 3 TDs. The Stampeders lost the first game of the season, but have gone 10 games unbeaten since then and are on their way to a first place finish in the West and overall standings. The Eskimos are looking in on the playoffs in the west, but currently have a spot via the crossover, a win up on Toronto who play at home to Hamilton Sunday.
