Edmonton Oilers centre Connor McDavid has been named the captain of Team North America for the World Cup of Hockey.
Philadelphia Flyers forward Sean Couturier and Florida Panthers defenceman Aaron Ekblad were named alternate captains.
“We have a lot of guys who will be leaders with their own club teams,” says Oilers and Team North America general manager Peter Chiarelli. “We just talked amongst the management group and the coaching staff, with what Connor is as a player and how he represents himself, that he’d be a good candidate to be captain.”
Chiarelli adds that the Oilers will name a captain during training camp. (jrw)
