The ITU World Triathlon has wrapped up its Edmonton leg.
And it was Britain’s Jonathan Brownlee coming out on top on the men’s side, and America’s Summer Cook took the top spot for the women.
Matthew Sharpe and Joanna Brown were the top Canadians.
They finished 11th and 17th respectively.
Sheila O’Kelly, the President and General Manager of the triathlon says that the event will be back next year, but this time in July.
“That will be better weather hopefully,” says O’Kelly. “We’ve had two in a row now that have not been satisfactory, weather speaking.”
O’Kelly says the triathlon still went well, despite not having the greatest weather through the weekend.
“We did have a good showing and spectators came out despite the inclement weather,” says O’Kelly. “It was lots of fun in the park, and at the beer gardens and all of that. So, all-in-all it was a good day.”
The morning swimming portions had to be cancelled due to the Hawrelak Park lake being too cold, but the main events weren’t effected since they went in the afternoon.
The final leg of the triathlon will be held in Cozumel, Mexico on September 11th. (km)
