An investigation has been launched after a body was found outside a burning home Thursday night.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at 98th Street and 81st Avenue at 11pm, and called in police when the body was discovered. Police say the victim was burned, but they haven’t been able to identify who it is yet.
The fire is considered to be suspicious at this point. Homicide investigators have also been brought in.
Meanwhile, another fire was reported, also at around 11pm.
Officers discovered it while responding to a complaint near Jasper Avenue and 90th Street. The first six floors of the building are occupied by seniors on assisted living, and the blaze was in a suite on the sixth floor. Once the fire department was called, Police went door to door, helping residents make their way out. Three people had to be sent to hospital, and one officer was treated for smoke inhalation.
Fire crews made quick work of the flames, investigators are looking into a cause.
A few blocks away from that fire, another one was called in on Jasper Avenue and 105th Street. It broke out at around 4:30 Friday morning. Crews appeared to have it out within a couple of hours.
The building was home to an escape room business, no word yet on whether anyone was inside at the time. (kdr)
