Traffic may feel a little bit heavier today as school is back in session and we’ll experience the first after school rush hour since the spring.
Jennifer Laraway with Edmonton Transit says with school back they have more busses on the road and there are more riders waiting at stops to watch out for.
“We have extra bus service in place right now and full service will resume September 6th when everybody is back to school,” explains Laraway. “That’s where we’ll see a lot of busses on the road and trains are already peak riders.”
She says they expect a lot of people are riding transit.
“Every September, we do a ridership count to gauge how many people are taking the bus and LRT every day and we average 100,00 people who are taking a bus, LRT or combination of both,” explains “So it is a lot of people, tens-of-thousands that we’re moving every day, throughout the day.”
Laraway says drivers should always yield the right-of-way to busses and watch out for more transit riders walking and waiting at stops.
Laraway adds any new riders to transit can also head to ETStripplanner.Edmonton.ca. (twd)
