The Brander Gardens Rezoning Action Committee isn’t happy about it. The citizens group voiced their opposition, that the development would lead to increased traffic in an area ill-suited for more, and that it would set a dangerous precedent for more development of the Edmonton river valley.
Deann Stein-Hasinoff, with the group, says now that it’s passed they’re looking into what they can do next.
“We’re going to talk with our lawyer to see if there’s any recourse at this point.”
In the end only one Councillor voted against the change. The 3.2 hectare privately held property isn’t to be subdivided, and therefore skirts the regulation that makes the land publicly accessible, and public accessibility was the reason Coun. Ben Henderson says he voted against the amendment.
