Eight days. That’s how long escaped convict and dangerous offender Darrell Moosomin was on the lam. Killam RCMP responded to a call at 6:00 Sunday evening to a report of a man matching Moosomin’s description hitchhiking along highway 13 just east of Daysland.
The Mounties made the roadside arrest without incident, and Moosomin remains in police custody pending a hearing.
Moosomin eluded his escort and vanished during a visit to the Samson Powwow in Maskwacis on August 13th.

His crimes are the stuff of nightmares. Parole documents released last week indicate he’s had a long and violent criminal career with more than 70 convictions for crimes such as assault, sexual assault and forcible confinement.
Global News has confirmed it was in 1994 that he was convicted of holding a woman and torturing her for eight hours. The victim showed signs of the brutal attack all over her body with the parole board telling Moosomin, “you injured your victim in the groin area and sewed her up without anesthetic.”
He also once beat an ex girlfriend’s brother so badly that one of the victim’s legs had to be amputated. Moosomin admits to believing his victims are his property. A number of victim impact statements show that Moosomin continues to inflict fear upon his victims by maintaining contact with them from prison.
