After cancelling a scheduled practice yesterday the Eskimos worked out today for the one and only practice before facing the Montreal Alouettes Thursday night on The Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium.
The team has lost three straight games and have missed key plays and taken untimely penalties once too often this season.
Head coach Jason Maas says it’s time to turn around their fortunes and play cleaner football which started today in practice.
Quarterback Mike Reilly was still wearing a bandage in the middle of his forehead after taking a hit to the helmet in the second quarter of last Saturday’s loss to the REDBLACKS. Reilly says there’s nothing to worry about as far as his health is concerned, he’s more concerned about the team’s level of execution right now.
Good news on the injury front as centre Justin Sorensen practiced with the first team offensive line and it looks likely that he will play on Thursday after missing two games with a shoulder injury.
New faces were in attendance today for the Eskimo in their one and only practice before facing the Montreal Alouettes on Thursday. Defensive backs Brandyn Thompson and Demetrius Wright were signed yesterday and worked out with the team today. Thompson played two seasons for the Ottawa REDBLACKS recording 99 defensive tackles and seven interceptions.
Thompson says he’s ready to contribute.
“Whatever is necessary
to help us get wins,” Thompson said. “This team has a long winning tradition. We got guys here that have won and expect to win so I just want to get in the mix and do whatever is necessary.”
Wright spent time last season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and attended the training camp of the Calgary Stampeders this season. Wright feels he can help the Eskimos.
“I’m able to bring that intensity, that fire, that drive, and that hunger because when you look at me you know I’m ready to go,” Wright said. “I’m ready to bring a little bit of change but there’s really not much to change, they already won a Grey Cup. They’re 2-4 right now but you can see in this team they’re not a 2-4 team.”
No word yet if either will play Thursday.
Kick-off on The Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium between the Eskimos and Alouettes is 7pm, 630 CHED will have the pre-game show at 5:30pm.
