It’s been two days since the Eskimos suffered their third straight loss falling 23-20 to the Ottawa REDBLACKS in what was a very physical game.
The Eskimos play next on Thursday at home against the Montreal Alouettes meaning a short time for the Eskimos rest up physically and mentally. The team was scheduled to practice Monday but cancelled practice to opt for more rest time. The Eskimos will practice on Tuesday meaning the team will only hold one formal practice before Thursday’s game. Receiver Derel Walker says there is plenty of work to do away from the field.
“You have to get as much rest as you can because you still have to work throughout the week,” Walker said. “You have to take care of your body. Hot tubs, cold tubs, and get some treatment and just rest.”
Quarterback Mike Reilly took several big hits in the game against Ottawa but says he will be ready to go on Thursday.
“I’m fine, Reilly said. “I’m obviously a little bit sore but just the same as I would be after any game but we got a short week so not a lot of time. We got to try and get healthy and recuperated and ready to go for a game here at home.”
The Eskimos were busy today making several moves. First the team signed Internatioal defensive backs Brandyn Thompson and Demetrius Wright. Thompson spent the last two seasons with the REDBLACKS making 99 defensive tackles and recording seven interceptions. Wright spent time last season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and attended the Calgary Stampeders training camp this season.
The Eskimos made a trade with the Saskatchewan Roughriders acquiring National linebacker Alex Ogbongbemiga in exchange for National defensive lineman Gregory Alexandre. Ogbongbehmiga was a 2016 third round draft pick of the Riders and in played one game this season.
The Eskimos have released International defensive back Deion Belue who registered eight defensive tackles in three games this season.
