From time to time by email or on the phone or at a public speaking event, people will talk about whether they trust the main stream media. They want to know why there are so many stories circulating on-line that we are not carrying, that they think we should be airing.
Usually the reason is, these stories are simply not true.
People email me an example of a story they believe we should be airing and I refer them to Snopes so they can see it’s a hoax or that it’s from a parody or comedy or otherwise fake news site.
The story has often been been re-written and embellished and re-circulated and now thousands now believe it is true.
Examples: Donald Trump did not say he would make Canada part of America. Hillary Clinton never said she thought Sharia law was good for the women of Libya. There are no plans for a 75 mile-an hour speed limit governor for motorcycles.
When you see a story that you think we are missing, do what we do and check the story for the source or date or venue or document where it came from, so you can look it up.
What you may find instead, is a disclaimer saying “this story is just satire”, or even “not a credible news source”.
Let me know if there are any stories you are concerned about.
