The Edmonton Police Service is looking for help from the public after a former MMA fighter was fatally injured after a hit and run near Whyte Avenue.
The victim is identified as 34-year-old former UFC fighter Ryan Jimmo, who fought out of Edmonton and was born in Saint John, New Brunswick.
Police say around 2:15 a.m. the occupants of two vehicles got into a fight in a parking lot in the area of Whyte and 101 Street.
At one point in the fight, Jimmo approached the other vehicle on foot. As he was walking back to his vehicle it’s alleged the suspect vehicle accelerated, hit Jimmo, and fled. Jimmo was declared dead in hospital.
Now police are looking for the suspect vehicle. It’s described as an older dark coloured pickup truck that has been customized with a lift kit, oversized tires, and clear tail lights. It was last seen travelling eastbound on Whyte around 99 Street.
Police are also looking to speak to the driver of a red car that was nearly struck when the truck travelled east in the westbound lanes of Whyte Avenue.
