The Eskimos trimmed their roster Sunday by 18 names, but still have some moves to make before the regular season begins Saturday at home to the Ottawa RedBlacks.
Among the nine players released are four members of the Grey Cup team from last year. Running back Akeem Shavers, DB Cauchy Muamba, DB Raye Hartmann and rec Andrew Johnson. Shavers was injured Saturday in the Eskimos preseason game against Saskatchewan and Muamba has been on the field for only two days of training camp.
Nine players were also named to the practice roster, including two receivers who had very strong training camps, Bryant Mitchell and Brandon Zylstra.
The Eskimos website lists 55 players on the roster, so 9 more moves will have to be made, expect those moves to involve the injured list, or possibly a trade. There is also room for one more player on the practice roster.
Eskimos kept all 4 QBs , at least for now, on the active roster.
Returner Kenzel Doe is on the practice roster, so the return job seems to go to Joe McKnight.
4 running backs ( 3 international 1 national ) on the roster, (McKnight, White, Bell,Morris )
Injured or missing players total 6. (Ojo, Young,Konar,Groulx,Milton,Bailey)
