A handful of Edmonton’s finest have ascended to the roof-top of the south side Cabella’s, for a worthy cause. EPS Constable Amanda Trenchard says they hope to collect 30 thousand dollars, and the proceeds all go to support Special Olympians.
“They’ve got to raise enough funds so they can come down off the roof on Sunday. As for what’s on site, we have lots of vehicles including sheriffs, peace officers, fish and wildlife, you can come down and climb in and around police vehicles, check them out”
Getting familiar with the police vehicles will be helpful for those youngsters who would like to become a police member one day. Trenchard says they’re offering junior officer training too!
As for the police on the roof…
“They’re all set up like they’re camping. They’ve got a tent, they’ve got chairs, they’re going to be eating up there, and they’re going to stay up there rain or shine.”
Trenchard isn’t among the roof-top patrol this year, but has been in years past.
“You actually have a lot of fun, but by the end of the weekend you’re pretty tired because you don’t get much sleep.”
There will be members and volunteers on the ground. Just look for the big yellow buckets, and they’ll happily collect your donations.
