Edmonton Police have laid charges in a couple of cases of alleged elder abuse.
59-year-old Antoine Chebli was originally hired to be the driver for 79-year-old Lois Holland, to take her to appointments and help her pick up groceries. At some point he was given her power of attorney and was granted access to her bank account.
Police say more than $10,000 was taken from the account between December of 2014 and September of 2015. He’s facing charges of theft over $5,000.
In another case a 53-year-old was charged last month for allegedly stealing $265,000 from his 94 year old grandmother, who had given him Power of Attorney responsibilities.
