With changes to provincial liquor laws, Happy Hour in Alberta can legally go until bars close.
On Friday, the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission announced that the 8:00pm cut-off for drink specials was being lifted.
Samantha Granger is the General Manager of Dixon’s in Calgary. She says it could mean more jobs.
“Our busiest time right now is that four-to-six period when people are getting off work.” Granger says. “If we can offer something to bring people in a little bit later, that will definitely increase our business’s and and in turn, increase shifts and employees scheduling.”
Patron Dan Lee doesn’t think more drink specials would create new issues with alcohol becoming an addiction.
“People still have jobs that they got to go work at.” Lee says. “But I guess people that already have a problem, it might exacerbate their problems.”
Other AGLC regulations that limit the amount of liquor sold after 1:00am, and set minimum drink prices, remain in effect. (ms, News Talk 770)
