A new department means new offices.
Tuesday in the House of Commons, the Conservatives were questioning the $835,000 dollars spent setting up the new Infrastructure department, headed by former Edmonton city councillor Amerjeet Sohi.
Director of Communications for Infrastructure Kate Monfette says being a brand new ministry, they had nowhere to go. “We were sharing with our colleagues at Transport, a few blocks away from the Infrastructure department. So basicly, we recently moved in with our colleagues and the minister was given his office.”
She says they aren’t trying to hide the spending at all. “You can go on our website. We did a proactive disclosure at the end of April with all the costs of our office. So it’s been online with all the costs of office furniture and what was purchased.”
The Infrastructure ministry was created when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau set up his cabinet. (eb)
