Edmonton Transit is making some changes to its routes to the Valley zoo and Fort Edmonton Park.
Communications advisor with ETS, Jennifer Laraway says they’re offering two route options to either destination.
“The previous route 596 no longer exists, so people are going to be looking for either route 594 that goes every thirty minutes between West Edmonton Mall and the Edmonton Valley zoo, and route 595 which still will depart from South campus and head over to Fort Edmonton Park, and that will run every twenty minutes.”
Laraway says one of the reasons they made the changes was because of the lack of usage.
“What we ended up doing over the last year was talking to our customers and the attractions to see how we can make the service better, and that’s why we split it up. West Edmonton Mall is one of our busiest transit centres in the city, so we’re hoping by offering the route 594 from that location we’ll see a lot of increased ridership.”
Laraway says the weekend service starts this May long weekend, and the daily service will begin on Canada day.
She says the routes will wrap up just after the September long weekend.
