A 53-year-old Edmonton man has been charged with fraud after he allegedly duped his 94-year-old grandmother out of more than $265,000.
The EPS says between August 2010 and August 2014 Jeffrey Edward Stals allegedly wrote cheques to himself, while acting as his grandmothers power of attorney, after she was hospitalized by a stroke.
When the woman regained the ability to make decisions in May 2014, Elder Abuse detectives were contacted.
Stals has been charged with theft by person holding power of attorney and fraud over $5,000.
In a news release, Detective Dave Huggins says Stals abused his position of power and trust.
