The 2016 CFL season is less than a month away, and the Eskimos front office has spent the off season planning for the new year and on Thursday announced those plans.
From Porkapalooza to Rockfest, Gord Bamford, Flo Rida and Uss, music will be a big part of the entertainment this season. Starting with Bamford at half time of the preseason game on June 18th. That game is part of the Porkapalooza Festival that will help raise money for the Fort McMurray relief fund.
Also returning will be Military Appreciation night, a night for 630 CHED Santas Anonymous and kids get in free night as well at the July 25th regular season home opener against the Ottawa RedBlacks.
There will be changes at Commonwealth Stadium as well. That starts with the new uniforms that were unveiled across the CFL today. At Commonwealth Stadium itself, more changes and there has been a lot in the last few years. A new LED board will be installed on the ring between the upper and lower decks and that will move the Ring of Honour to field level.
The team will also have a new “social bar” in the north end zone. This is something CEO and President Len Rhodes says fans have asked for. “In Section FF and NN there will be a stand up social bar. No seats, we are removing the seats and it will be a place that people can be sociable, meet with your best friends have a beer and celebrate. The teens and the young adults have asked us to have more areas where they can stand“.
Also announced today plans for an Eskimos themed sports bar at the Edmonton International Airport that will be opening in the fall. “We are targeting September 1st to bring our brand and the Eskimos into the airport” said Rhodes who was approached about this idea two years ago “It will be on the domestic side on the departure level. You will be able to have your favourite food and drink while watching your favourite sporting events.”
Next up for the Eskimos is football. Training camp opens on May 29th. More on the Eskimos Sunday at 4 PM on 630 CHED
