Over one thousand delegates from PC Alberta meeting in Red Deer on Saturday selected Katherine O’Neill as their new party President.
O’Neill says they hope to win back many more former members as they rebuild and “reflect the values that Albertans expect.”
The AGM included members from the fire-ravaged Fort McMurray region, with the attending delegates raising more than $26,000 for the Red Cross relief effort.
One of the voting highlights included a return to a delegate system that will see PC Alberta members from each constituency choose their delegates to a convention to elect the next leader of the party.
Interim leader Ric McIver is grandfathered in to run for the upcoming leadership vote if so desired, but the party says future interim leaders will be unable to run for permanent leadership.
A policy process is expected to be developed in the next several months that will form the basis for the principles and policies of PC Alberta. (td)
