With the city so big on infill housing, building up instead of out, they need to be more conscious about people respecting the quiet enjoyment of other people’s property.
A woman complains she is kept awake by a plastic bucket drummer on Whyte Avenue who starts at about 11 at night and goes until 3 in the morning. Why should she have to complain about that more than once?
People who have office space downtown complain they have to use earplugs or headphones because someone is preaching through a megaphone. Not the first time we’ve heard this.
There are places where dogs bark all night, keeping the neighborhood awake.
Some people have noisy neighbors with late parties and loud music.
Get a sound meter.
The city tells me that at your property line, if the sound is louder than 65 decibels in the daytime or 50 at night, you can file a complaint.
As for those who argue freedom of expression has no volume, I disagree.
Freedom of expression is subject to legal limits, and your freedom ends where the quiet enjoyment of others begins.
Let me know what you think about that.
