A city in Germany has decided to embed traffic lights on their sidewalks for distracted walkers.
Apparently the younger demographic in Germany is so distracted and engaged in their mobile phone, that they don’t even know when to walk at crosswalks, thus ignoring traffic signals.
The idea is that pedestrians who are constantly looking down on their phones will have the ability to see in their peripherals whether or not to walk or wait.
According to a study in the USA, one in three Americans are busy texting or working on their smartphone at dangerous road crossings.
The thought came to fruition after a 15 year old girl was killed by an oncoming train, because she was distracted on her phone and crossed the tracks.
The 630 CHED Afternoon News doesn’t think it’s too bad of an idea.
