Alberta has a long history with the world of wrestling entertainment and now those who love the sport can try it out for themselves in Edmonton.
Gold’s Gym at Westmount Mall has added wrestling equipment, including two rings, for those interested in the sport.
TJ Roy, manager of wrestling operations, tells 630CHED they will have boot camps, self-defense classes and will train those who wish to become wrestlers.
“The gym itself, the ring is ready to go, we do have trainers readily available,” explains Roy. “We still have some fine details to work out but it is open and you can check it out.”
“We have trainers there like Phil Lafond, who is a former WWE superstar who was really big in Japan as well,” explains Roy.
Roy says Lafond, is a trainer as well as Leo Burke, who was once part of the Hart Family’s Stampede wrestling in Calgary.
Roy says there is a lot of buzz around the facility already and they just added the gear.
“People want to get involved in this,” explains Roy. “This is something that is fun, something you don’t particularly need to be training to be a pro-wrestler to get involved in this there is lots of different options to get involved to have fun with the rings.”
Roy says he has been wrestling in amateur circuits around the country for around 10 years now. He adds that it is a great workout, lots of fun and a great way to meet new people. (twd)
